Sussex lost both openers in the same over on a testing first morning for the county against Kent in the Championship at Hove today.
Murray Goodwin and Richard Montgomerie fell to David Masters in the tenth over as the Kent attack made good use of a green-tinged pitch offering some early assistance to the seamers.
Goodwin's run of low scores continued when he fell for 12, leg before to a ball which must have nipped back late.
Three deliveries later Montgomerie was also beaten by late movement as he played across the line after making 14 to leave Sussex 32-2.
Kent's decision to bowl first was hardly a surprise.
The pitch has sweated under the covers for the last few days after heavy rain and both new batsmen struggled with their timing early on.
However, Michael Yardy drove Masters sweetly through extra cover for his first boundary before Kent made a double bowling change by bringing on Min Patel and Mark Ealham.
Skipper Chris Adams took the attack back to the bowlers in the 23rd over when he came down the pitch to carve Ealham over cover for four.
