I am delighted to see the new parking proposals for Goldsmid at the church in Davigdor Road, Brighton. They put residents, rather than commuters, first.

The level of ten-hour parking was the undoing of the previous scheme.

It is nice to see Brighton and Hove City Council listening to local residents and recognising the problems we have suffered in this area since the introduction of strict parking regulation elsewhere.

This new mix of half the area exclusively for residents combined with four-hour parking for visitors and others will vastly improve the availability of parking for local people.

We will be glad to see the back of long-term parking, abandoned cars and commuters endlessly prowling around looking for spaces.

I thank Labour ward Councillor Vince Meegan, who has been negotiating this as a priority since he was elected last year.

Thanks, too, to Councillor Simon Battle, the council's transport spokesman, for his hard work. The sooner the scheme is introduced, the better for everybody.
