Trevor Pateman (Letters, July 9) is quite wrong to suggest Brighton and Hove City Council is doing nothing to look at the Zone N parking scheme in Hove just because it has appointed consultants to do so.
On the contrary, it is a mandate to review the scheme and, consequently, improve parking there.
The consultants will be undertaking the review over the next 18 months with priority given to the central Hove and Brunswick and Adelaide schemes.
They have extensive experience of on-street parking schemes and have demonstrated good value for money to the council.
Mr Pateman complains about underused parking spaces in central Hove - this is one of the things the review will address.
Although Mr Pateman lives outside Zone N and therefore does not qualify for a permit, the review will examine the issue of properties on the borders of parking zones.
And just to correct one point - the council did not launch the review in January. While it gave a commitment to undertake a review six months after the start of the central Hove scheme, this was delayed because of budget pressures.
-Coun Simon Battle, Deputy chairman, environment, Brighton and Hove City Council
