More than a hundred friends and relatives were finally able to say goodbye to Scott Cosgrove yesterday.
Mourners filled St Joseph's Church in Elm Grove, Brighton, to pay their last respects to the 27-year-old who died of a suspected heroin overdose on June 16.
Among those grieving were Mr Cosgrove's mother, Josephine, and his sister Claire, 26.
They were joined by other relatives and friends, including some whom Mr Cosgrove had known from Cardinal Newman School in Brighton, where he used to be a pupil.
As the coffin was brought into the church, Oasis song Cast No Shadow was played.
Mr Cosgrove, of Goldstone Villas, Hove, was found unconscious at his flat on June 15. Paramedics spent 45 minutes resuscitating him before taking him to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
He was transferred to Medway Maritime Hospital in Kent, where he died the next day.
The funeral was planned for July 5 but had to be cancelled because paperwork did not arrive in time.
