With reference to the somewhat stentorian Williams sisters' Wimbledon final, J Adams (Letters, July 9) claims "loud groaning... was never heard before".

This isn't the case. Since Jimbo Connors grunted his way to glory in 1974, "silence please" has rarely been observed by the players.

What I found far more off-putting was the very unsavoury personal habits of Tim "Hawking" Henman, much more in keeping with a Sex Pistols concert during the Silver Jubilee than a worldwide audience in the Golden.
