As team leader of Bevendean Children's Centre, one of the organisations whose very survival was secured by an extremely successful sponsored abseil organised by Adventure Unlimited at the Peacehaven site, I should like to fully endorse the views of Paul Jarvis (Letters, July 10).
This is a popular way of raising cash and has a truly wonderful effect on the confidence and self-esteem of the youngsters who take part.
The professionalism and safety-awareness of Adventure Unlimited is of the highest order.
As an organisation, Adventure Unlimited has always been committed to protecting and teaching consideration of the environment to the young people it works with, so we may be sure that if damage was an issue, it would be the first to support banning the use of Bastion Steps.
There are very few, if any, comparable sites available to local groups and the Bevendean Children's Centre, too, urges Lewes District Council to review its decision.
