Two West Sussex developments have been shortlisted for coveted construction industry awards.
The Meadowfield mental health unit in Worthing is contesting the Best Building category in the annual British Construction Industry Awards.
A new exhibit at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum near Chichester is one of the buildings shortlisted in the Small Project category.
The £7.3 million Meadowfield building officially opened last September and provides facilities for people with mental health problems.
Designers wanted to get away from the image of an old-fashioned mental health building with long, narrow corridors.
The unit's corridors are much shorter and there is a large amount of space and light in the wards to get away from an institutionalised setting.
The £1.8m downland gridshell building at Singleton was unveiled last month.
It was designed with the help of computer technology and took two years to build.
The building is 50 metres long and constructed from a shaped lattice of curved oak beams.
It encloses an ash floor space covering 50 metres by 17 metres.
The building accommodates a workshop which gives craftsmen space to assemble the wooden frames of historic buildings.
It also has a cavernous basement which will house the museum's collection of tools and artefacts.
Both sites will be visited by judges who will select a winner and highly commend another from the ten shortlisted in each category.
The results will be announced at the Hilton Hotel in London in October.
