Struggling division two side Preston Nomads are through to the quarter-finals of the Gray Nicolls Sussex League Cup.

Nomads, bottom of the league, are the only side outside the premier division left in the competition.

Their reward for a nine-wicket win against fellow division two side Littlehampton is a home tie against last season's double winners Horsham on Sunday.

Littlehampton were dismissed for 136 as Ian Jones took 3-34 and Hugo Shepherd 3-10. Anthony Jones (50) was top scorer for the visitors. Steve Gatting then cracked 75 not out to take Nomads to victory at 137-1 and Yosef Salameh made 49.

Riaan Walters and Paul Stevens each made 137 as Eastbourne beat East Grinstead by 98 runs.

They helped Eastbourne to 332-8, the pick of the home bowlers was Stuart Simmonds with 4-41 in eight overs. East Grinstead were never really in the chase despite the efforts of Steve Pollard (66) and Steve Greig (62) and they tumbled to 234 all out. Richard Smith took 3-41 and Graham Underdown 3-61.

St James beat weakened Cuckfield by nine runs. Marc Gardner, just 16 years old, hit 89 as St James' made 233-9 and Henry Ledden made 41. Stephen Booth took 2-35 for Cuckfield.

Jason Oates hit a fine 104 and Jon Goodwin made 48 in the Cuckfield run-chase and they finished at 225-9 as Ledden completed a good day with figures of 3-34.

Steyning owed much to Sussex player Jamie Carpenter for their 42-run win against Stirlands in a 30 -overs-a-side match.

Carpenter hit 62 in a Steyning score of 180-7 and then took 4-13 as Stirlands tumbled to 138 all out. Danny Cox top scored with 32.

Chichester rattled up 280-4 to win by 70 runs at Haywards Heath. Paul Robbins made 133 and Kim Wulff 76 not out as Alex Ellis grabbed 4-46 for Heath.

In reply, Jason Krezja did his bit with 79 and David Wood made 28, but Heath were always behind the required rate as Nick Dyer took 3-10 to lead his side to victory.

It was easy for Brighton and Hove at Worthing where Bas Zuiderent hit 88 to lead the visitors to 196-9. Andy Sartor made 32 and Danny Barton took 4-26. Worthing were then dismissed for just 104 as Stuart Collier took 5-22.
