"Landfill site" and "rubbish dump" were just two of the descriptions in the national Press of the effect of Fatboy Slim's beach disco (it was not a "concert").

One need hardly add to that, other than to point out that the way in which all this was promoted shows Brighton and Hove City Council's "environmental" and "sustainable" policies are a sham.

Not only is this no encouragement for anybody to recycle but the garbage being slowly gathered from the beach - more will be back on every tide - is being sent to landfill.

Meanwhile, turn a pebble and more will rise. Blue Flag, anyone?

As for Fatboy Slim's boastful cry about the "biggest gig of my life", one must question his motives as he sits on his private beach and reflects that his latest disc is knocked down to £2.99 in the HMV sale. Don't all rush at once.
