It looks like J13 - or July 13, 2002 - will go down as an infamous date in Brighton's history.

It was always cynical to link a beach party with the Capital of Culture bid, thus inflating it out of all proportion.

I would support a funky event for locals and passing tourists but if you say where else, you get "nowhere else", hence a crush.

What saddens me most - apart from the injuries - is the vast pile of rubbish which will not be recycled.

The council boasts about its green credentials yet, as we approach the next Earth Summit in August, we are creating even bigger mountains of trash.

Why was there no plan to collect the cans, glass and paper in separate bags? After last year's Sita debacle, Brighton and Hove City Council should have been looking for Brownie points.

Walking around on Monday morning, the only topic of conversation was the Fatboy Slim event.

It wasn't just the old or fuddy-duddy who were moaning but people of all ages who were in a state of shock.

Many had gone to the event but never wanted to see such a crowd again.

Ken Bodfish says the event was a success. Nice to know he's in tune with popular opinion.

It really fills me with confidence. What about that poor girl with head injuries? Is she a price worth paying?

Hang your head in shame, Councillor Bodfish. I suggest you scrap the where else campaign and offer your resignation.

The local elections come before next summer so another beach gig won't save the council in the popularity stakes.

If our local politicians don't listen to their residents and voters - fast - they can expect total defeat and humiliation.
