In Adam Trimingham's review of Brighton and Hove City Council's first year in control of parking (July 16), Tory councillor Pat Drake is quoted as saying, "You sometimes wonder where all the cars have gone".
Part of the answer is they have gone into the unzoned parking ghettos which surround the zoned areas of the city.
Coun Drake has only to stroll across the boundary between central Hove's Zone N and unzoned west Hove, for example, to see what has happened.
The outcome looks very much like social discrimination and it would be an interesting project for a local university student to relate the zoned and unzoned areas to the political affiliations of their councillors and the affluence of their residents.
