I read that 75 per cent of road fatalities so far in 2002 are motorbike riders (The Argus, July 16). Is this any surprise?

You can't drive anywhere these days without these maniac bikers on the roads. They come tearing up behind you and can't wait to get past, so they ride alongside you in the middle of the road, trying to force you to get out of their way.

Then, before you can blink, they've gone, doing well over the speed limit, ready to intimidate the next motorist in their way.

The police quote the word "tragic". Well, hang on a minute - don't you think the words "self-inflicted" would sum up the vast majority of these deaths?

When are the police going to start setting up some roadblocks to catch some of these menaces on bikes?

After all, if they are allowed to ride how the hell they like on our country roads, I'm afraid the death toll will carry on rising and many victims will be the innocent other parties.
