A £5 million plan to upgrade an ex-servicemen's care home in Worthing has been unveiled.
Gifford House in Boundary Road is to have a new wing built on to the existing building. It will house 22 single bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.
This is in line with Government regulations that all care homes must offer single rooms by 2007.
However several veterans are angered by the plans as they prefer to share rooms.
John Paxman, chief executive of Gifford House, the Queen Alexandra Home for Disabled Ex-Servicemen, said: "Some of our residents like to share rooms, but we have to go with regulations."
The new wing will replace two existing wards.
A planning application submitted to Worthing Borough Council this week also includes a new occupational therapy complex.
Work could start next year and should be completed at the end of 2006, providing a total of 60 beds.
About £5 million needs to be generated through fund-raising to pay for the changes.
