Sussex MP Des Turner today dismissed a Tory attempt to revive his failed Private Member's Bill as a "stunt".
The Kemp Town MP withdrew his Home Energy Conservation Bill after the Government said it would not support the legislation.
It was wrecked after Tory MPs, supported by left-wing Labour MPs, tabled an amendment calling for energy savings of 30 per cent by 2010, which was unacceptable to ministers.
Now Tory shadow environment spokesman Jon-athan Sayeed has tabled an exact copy of Dr Turner's Bill but including the amendment.
Mr Sayeed has written to Dr Turner, stating his decision to scrap his own Bill was "regrettable" and that he hoped his new version would win support.
Dr Turner said: "The Conservatives contributed to the downfall of my Bill in the first place and this is a pointless stunt."
He plans to reintroduce the Bill, without the amendment, next year.
