Claire Smithson finished a disappointing ninth in the discus at the World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.
In qualifying, the Brighton and Hove athlete was ten metres below her best and only just managed to book a place in the final rounds.
She was equally out of a touch in the final and managed a best throw of 50.85m.
Smithson, the British captain, returns to England tomorrow and will catch a flight to Manchester where she competes for England in the Commonwealth Games Worthing's Debbie Woolgar took part in seven events at the Sussex Veterans Championships at Eastbourne and broke five records.
They came in the 100m hurdles (16.5sec), 400m hurdles (75.8sec), shot putt (11.65m), discus (32.99m) and javelin (32.83m).
Steyning's Gareth Brown completed his preparation for the Commonwealth Games 50km walk by winning the Mickey Brown Open 5km road race at Steyning.
In the women's race, under-20 walker Sophie Hales had a convincing victory over clubmate Jo Hesketh (23min. 53sec).
Sarah Brown, Gareth's older sister, is back racing after the birth of her daughter nearly two years ago.
Sarah, who is one of the top Sussex women walkers of all time, was the second senior women to complete the course.
It was appropriate Sarah should choose this event to return to racing as the walks commemorates the memory their mother, Mickey.
