Cycling is being encouraged in Brighton and Hove as an alternative to the car.
But South Central is doing its level best to discourage anyone who wants to ride a bike.
Its new trains will take a maximum of two bikes in each unit - but none if someone in a wheelchair happens to be travelling at the same time.
Now it is warning people who chain bikes to railings at the front of Brighton station that the machines may be impounded.
There is a place for leaving bikes at the station but it is inconvenient, insecure and often overcrowded.
South Central should get together with cyclists and discuss how it can cater for their needs instead of making things awkward for them.
