Firefighters helped Eastbourne police out of a fix after officers couldn't release a prisoner from his handcuffs.

Officers arrested a man in his 30s and took him to the cells at the police station in Grove Road.

But when they tried to take the cuffs off the man, who was drunk, they found they were jammed shut.

They managed to free one hand, but the other remained firmly cuffed.

Sub Officer Steve Whittlesey, of Eastbourne fire station, said: "We used bolt cutters to take them off. The man didn't seem to bothered, but I think he was a little worse for wear."
