I was really taken with the comments from a "spokes-woman": "It is not down to South Central to manage the behaviour of passengers. We run trains, we are not there to stop people behaving badly."

What a classic quote - their lives would be so much easier if they didn't have passengers to worry about and could just get on with running trains.

Are they saying we should let them get on with it and use other means of transport?

I have come across similar attitudes from platform staff at Brighton.

Once, when I mentioned that the platform for one train had been announced so late it would not be possible for elderly or disabled passengers to get there in time, the reply was: "I can't worry about that. I've get trains to get out."
