Sussex are likely to sign a second overseas player next season even though the club's committee are against the idea.

Skipper Chris Adams, coach Peter Moores and new chief executive Nigel Russell met at Edgbaston yesterday during the county's Championship match against Warwickshire to discuss recruitment plans for next season.

Top of their wanted list is another spinner and the county will try and recruit him from overseas.

At their meeting last month the committee decided to vote against an ECB proposal for two overseas player from next season after a debate instigated by chairman David Green.

But the ECB have adopted the plan anyway and Adams says it is "almost certain" they will bring in another overseas player.

"We will get one, that's almost certain," said Adams. "Put it this way, if we don't I will be very disappointed."

The crowded international schedule means any new recruit is unlikely to be available for the whole summer, but Sussex desperately need to boost their slow-bowling options following the death of Umer Rashid in April.

"We are certainly deficient in spin," said Adams. "Mark Davis has carried us this year and now he's injured we are forced to select Chris Nash from the Academy."
