The owners of an excellent care home have finally called it a day after 31 years in the business because of the intolerable load of the Government's 230 new care standard rules. The new "standards" were only guidelines after all.

Poor comfort to our residents, who are all heartbroken and facing a traumatic time looking for new accommodation.

If Messrs Blair and Milburn could listen to our residents, who thought they were secure and settled in a happy environment for the rest of their lives and are now shocked and bewildered, they surely would be ashamed.

If the Government had listened to care home-owners' views, many homes would have been saved from closure.
