Albion have called in goalkeeper Andy Petterson for today's pre-season friendly at Leyton Orient.
The former Charlton and Portsmouth No. 1 gets a chance to show what he can do after Michel Kuipers and Will Packham were sidelined by minor knocks.
Kuipers, who signed a new three-year contract this week, picked up a thigh strain in Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Gravesend and Northfleet while Packham turned an ankle recently.
The much-travelled Petterson, 32, is a free agent having been released by West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season.
Hinshelwood said: "I have asked him to come and do some training. I was going to do it next week but we have changed that with Michel not being 100 per cent.
"I saw Andy playing at Portsmouth so I know what he can do. He has not done much football training recently but he was been working out in the gym.
"This is a good chance for him to impress us or maybe any other clubs who are watching."
Petterson was born in Fremantle, Australia, and most of his first team football has come with Charlton, for whom he made 72 League appearances.
Hinshelwood has revealed he will target players still with other clubs rather than those out of work as he bids to increase his squad in time for the new Nationwide League campaign.
He missed the Gravesend game and instead travelled to Farnborough, where a collection of Portsmouth misfits and trialists played out a 1-1 draw which had boss Harry Redknapp fuming.
The Pompey side included touch tackling midfielder Shaun Derry, sweeper or full back Scott Hiley and central defender Carl Tiler, all of whom are free to leave Fratton Park with Redknapp desperate to cut his wage bill.
Hinshelwood is close to agreeing new contracts with two of Albion's double title-winning squad.
Meanwhile Burnley are the latest Division One club to feel the pinch. Albion's opening day opponents have put their entire first team squad up for sale.
