You guys sure missed a good show when I made my basketball comeback on Wednesday.

I was down at the beach in Brighton, playing on the court down there with the likes of Bud Johnston, Daniel Hildreth, James Brame and Brian Snyder from the Cougars.

Okay, I was pretty awful but it was good fun and we waxed some team real good before Hildreth and Brame's team got us back. That was about enough for my 35-year-old bones.

I know people like Mark Jackson and Jon Turner are often showing their skills down there and it's a great place to play.

The guys at the court are really hyped up about Ballers in Brighton, which will be staged down there on Saturday, August 10. I can't bring you any names as yet but it promises to be a really good afternoon of outdoor ball.

Going back indoors, I was at the Hosana Pro-Am up at Crystal Palace last Friday, watching South Coast unfortunately miss out on the semis by losing to Hackney.

It was some time since I had seen some basketball action and I really enjoyed the evening. Those guys up there play hard, especially Errol Seaman and his Hackney team against us.

I suppose I should have expected nothing less from Errol. Hackney played some really tough defence against us and limited our open shots, although their size advantage helped them do that.

Errol is a bit of a legend up there and, unlike in the BBL, I thought he had a few calls go his way. That's how it should be. He's a good strong player. In basketball you can use your physical strength and still play within the rules and people forget that.

I thought Errol was treated unfairly in the second half of last season by officials. They were calling him for fouls when he wasn't even going close to people.

Sure, he was aggressive. That's not against the rules. He made a comment about his court time being decreased when Rodger Farrington joined us but the main reason his minutes went down was because he was in foul trouble the whole time.

He could get called for fouls just walking from the bench to the court.

I think refs try to predict what will happen in a game instead of just calling what they see. Someone probably said he was a dirty player and it was almost like handing out a memo to the officials. I know one thing, he looked great the other night and I would love to take him back.

Look out for the Sports Argus this weekend where there is a feature with Errol.

I am afraid there is no transfer news I can give you this week although players are very keen to join us here at the Bears. The hard part is finding someone who is a bit special and stands out from the crowd.

I also met with a prestigious would-be sponsor on Tuesday with whom I would expect to do some business. Again, no details, but expect some encouraging news on television coverage and sponsorship for the league.

Closer to home, you can look out for a few improvements on our website in the near future. There is some great stuff on the site and we want to make it look as attractive as possible at first glance.

I speak to a lot of potential backers of the Bears and I know the first thing they will do after I have made initial contact is to call-up brightonbears.com and see what we are all about.

Not that I intend sitting at a computer in this great weather. I'm down to the beach to play some more basketball. Maybe see you there on August 10.
