I wonder whether the local councillors actually know the city we live in.
I was at a meeting organised by Brighton and Hove City Council on Saturday for an initiative called Street Doctors. During a round-table discussion on rubbish collection, Coun Morley (head of Environmental Services) asked me where I lived.
When I told him Marine Parade in Kemp Town, he looked me up and down and sneered: "So, do you live in a bedsit then?"
I replied: "No, I actually live in a very large Regency flat."
He replied: "Oh, when I think of Marine Parade, I think of small bedsits."
He then said to the audience: "It is very nice to see all of you today. As councillors, we don't realise you people are out there."
Do we really pay his wages?
