What a sad picture greeted us on the front page of The Argus (July 25).
An emaciated Staffordshire bull terrier so thin you could count its ribs, head lowered through weakness and two large, sad eyes staring out at us.
An abandoned pet, obviously not treated as a pet but finally dumped, starving, in a cardboard box in a lay-by.
There is no excuse for this kind of treatment as there is always help for people who can't cope with their pets.
The RSPCA, The Canine Defence League and animal rescue centres will always offer help and advice.
Severe cruelty cases such as this one should carry an order ruling the owner is never again allowed to own a pet.
