Hastings' Sean Baldock helped bring down the curtain on a fabulous night of success for England's athletes.
The host nation claimed six golds last night with Baldock helping the 4x400m squad round things off in style.
Jared Deacon, Baldock, Chris Rawlinson and Daniel Caines won in 3mins 0.40secs to bring the team its 11th medal of the final night.
England snatched gold from Wales by just 0.01 seconds as Caines just held off 400m hurdles silver medallist Matt Elias on the final leg.
Elias was distraught as the result flashed up and had to be consoled by team-mate Jamie Baulch.
Caines said: "It's a team effort. The last 40m were really hard, the four rounds of the individual were really heavy on my legs."
There were other successes on a night of high drama.
England's Ashia Hansen saved her best for last with the biggest jump in the world this year to set a new Games record and claim gold with her final leap of the triple jump competition. Cameroon's Francoise Mbango snatched the lead with her final leap but Hansen produced a stunning jump of 14.86 metres to prize the title from her grasp.
Kelly Holmes regained the title she first won eight years ago in Victoria with a stunning run to take gold for England in the 1500m.
Mike East produced the performance of his life to win the men's 1500m.
