A Japanese man will leap off Bognor pier for the first time in this year's birdman competition.
Nobuya Takatsugi first used his kite-type craft Hayabusa, which means falcon in English, more than ten years ago in his native country.
He now hopes it will fly the 100m needed to collect the £25,000 Butlins jackpot prize.
Mr Takatsugi is following in the steps of birdmen from Europe, the United States and Australia who have turned the competition into an international event.
John Stride, who chairs the Birdman steering group, said: "I am optimistic that for the first time in 24 years the jackpot will be claimed.
"There are 13 birdmen entering the serious flight category.
"Let's hope someone takes home the £25,000."
In all, there are 33 entries.
Flying starts at 1.20pm on August 11, although organisers expect large crowds and recommend spectators get to the seafront early.
