Nigel Jones has resigned as chairman and general manager at Hastings United to rejoin Eastbourne Borough.

Jones, 49, left Priory Lane after Borough's Sussex Senior Cup win over Lewes at the end of last season to take up the role of chairman and general manager at the Pilot Field.

However, Jones does not feel things have worked out with him and the owners Mick Maplesden and Charlie Pilbeam and has jumped at the chance to go back to Borough as general manager for the coming campaign.

Jones said: "I have been chairman of Hastings in the past but have spent the past two successful years at Eastbourne Borough as a scout.

"When I was asked to come back to Hastings it was a hard decision to make and I only went on the understanding I would have 90 per cent control in the running of the club.

"However, although I have a role in running of the club, when it has got down to the nitty-gritty and the big issues on the football side I have not had much say in matters.

"I came on the understanding that Mick Maplesden would take a step back and let me run things but that has not happened and therefore I have taken the decision, after a great deal of thought, to resign.

"As I told Mick on Saturday when I resigned, 'Nigel Jones and Mick Maplesden do not make a good cocktail'. Mick should stand back but that is not going to happen."
