A 17-year-old tearaway behind one-in-ten antisocial incidents in Brighton city centre has been banned from almost 100 shops.
Joshua Haggart has harassed, threatened, bullied, sworn at and attacked shop workers in a 12-month reign of terror.
But yesterday this campaign of thuggery - in which he has clocked up a shocking 99 separate offences - was brought to a sudden end.
Haggart was banned from stepping inside 90 shops in Churchill Square, Western Road and West Street.
If he steps out of line he faces five years in prison.
Magistrates in Brighton heard how Haggart, of Carlisle Road, Hove, had made life a misery for people working and shopping in the city.
Terence Davies, manager of Brighton City Centre Business Forum, told the court: "Joshua has been responsible for the most prolific number of reports we have had. His activities have caused staff personal concern.
"Working in a shop should be a pleasant experience but young people like Joshua are making people's lives extremely difficult by intimidation, threats and acts of violence."
Robert Hall, prosecuting, told the court of his terrible record. He said previous attempts to curb the youth's behaviour had been unsuccessful.
But Haggart's youth worker, Jo Bates, told the court Haggart's behaviour was a cry for help.
She said: "Joshua has had long-term behavioural problems.
"He was diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) when he was eight and has had difficulties fitting into the mainstream. His behaviour can be erratic and volatile.
"His recklessness has given him a sense of belonging and worth.
"Since about April this year there have been massive changes for Joshua. He is an intelligent young man.
"He is helping his dad at work and is going back to college in September to do a crafts and building course.
"He is more focused and now has a great sense of direction."
District Judge Anne Arnold said: "The purpose of an antisocial behaviour order is to tackle behaviour which may be on occasions criminal but does not have to be. I am satisfied an order is necessary to protect people from further antisocial acts by him."
Under the order, which will last for two years, Haggart is banned from 90 shops, including Debenhams, JD Sports, HMV, Virgin and Footlocker.
