Skipper Chris Adams says his side are relishing the prospect of back-to-back games against high-flying Surrey.
The Sharks meet the Lions in a floodlit National League game at Hove tonight (4.10pm) before tackling the Championship leaders over four-days starting on Thursday.
Adams hopes to play his first game since tearing a calf after Surrey's C&G Trophy win at Hove three weeks ago and he believes it could be the best time to be playing them.
Martin Bicknell is struggling to be fit after fracturing a wrist, Graham Thorpe is taking a break from the game and Surrey have Mark Butcher and Alec Stewart on Test duty.
Adams said: "If we produce consistent performances then we can beat anyone, but Surrey are a daunting prospect.
"Having said that, they have just lost a C&G Trophy semi-final and they could be without four quality players."
Alex Tudor will play in the Championship match after being released by England.
Sussex (from): Montgomerie, House, Adams, Goodwin, Cottey, Prior, Martin-Jenkins, Innes, Davis, Kirtley, Taylor, Ambrose.
Surrey (probable): Ward, Brown, Ramprakash, Shahid, Clarke, Hollioake, Batty, Sampson, Saqlain Mushtaq, Murtagh, Giddins.
Sussex II start a three-day match against Glamorgan at Horsham today (11am).
