A major shake-up of school bus routes is due to come into force at the start of the new term.
Brighton and Hove City Council has negotiated a new deal with bus firms aimed at cutting costs and providing a better service for children who mainly attend special schools.
Council chiefs are trying to dispel fears the new system will lead to chaos.
A council spokesman said: "We're confident our improved home-to-school transport strategy will be up and running in time for the new academic year.
"Reorganising home-to-school transport has been a complex operation. But we've come a long way in terms of maximising value for money for the taxpayer.
"We've also put robust systems in place to monitor the service and ensure it continues to deliver the improvements local families deserve.
"We're working flat out to get the new system working smoothly from day one."
