Six people were last night charged over an alleged bid to smuggle £1 million of cocaine into the UK via Gatwick.
Customs officers at the airport arrested three men and one woman arriving on board Virgin Atlantic Airways flight VS034 from Antigua.
The four are said to have been carrying a total of 20kg of cocaine. Two more men were later arrested in connection with the inquiry.
They are Barrington Smith, 39, from Derby; Karl Proudley, 33, from Croydon; Fernando Rodriguez, 32, from Lambeth; Maria Duque, 39, from Clapham; Erol Lou Deer, 27, of no fixed address; and Sehon Logan, 27, from Catford.
Customs spokesman Bob Gaiger said all six were due to appear before Crawley magistrates today and inquiries were continuing.
