I have just read a copy of Policing Sussex, written and distributed by the Sussex Police Authority.
This is headed Crime Down and is meant to reassure Sussex residents crime really is under control. The authority contains a number of councillors, JPs and people who have appeared in the Honours List.
Having read this pub-lication, I am left wondering just how in touch with reality these people are.
I find it impossible to venture into Worthing in broad daylight or, indeed, any other Sussex town, without seeing examples of law breaking. If it isn't lunatic drivers showing off at 60mph in residential streets, yobs throwing cans into people's gardens or cyclists and skateboarders hurtling towards you on pavements, it is drunks or drug addicts aggressively accosting people and demanding money.
Unfortunately, events like this have become so commonplace, few people bother to report them anymore.
It is high time members of the Sussex Police Authority got out and saw what people in the real world have to face.
