It has been 16 days since we last had a rubbish collection at Richmond Place.

The shiny, green flyer came through the door telling us collection day was changing to Thursday two weeks ago.

It failed to tell us which Thursday. Maybe one in the middle of September?

Richmond Place is one of the main roads into Brighton. Every Saturday morning, cars stacked full of day-trippers crawl in the traffic past our front door and they see bags and bags of rubbish.

Welcome to Brighton - we like to call it dirty town. Here we wallow in our own waste and we trip over our own trash. There have been sightings of rubbish trucks but they zoom past the front door as if the driver is putting his foot down and looking the other way.

I've just moved from London and have been shocked at the hike in council tax from where I used to live in Wandsworth.

I spoke to someone on the refuse helpline who was helpful but had no idea how many streets are affected and could not advise me when my rubbish would finally be cleared.

I'd like to suggest all Brighton residents who are in the same predicament write to insist they have two weeks' worth of the council tax they pay for rubbish collection refunded.

I understand the general manager for waste management is Steve White. Perhaps unsurprisingly, when I asked to speak to him, I was told he was in a meeting.
