Today The Argus is launching a campaign to protect one of Brighton and Hove's greatest assets.

The pebbles on the city's world-famous beach are still riddled with the broken glass left by revellers from the Fatboy Slim event.

Children have been taken to hospital with cut feet and glass has been washed in and out on the tide.

It is not a good advertisement for the city, which prides itself on its tourist trade.

Now is the time to say enough is enough and to consider the long-term environmental future of the beach.

We are calling for people to keep glass off the beach at all times.

It is a campaign where everyone can do their bit to help, including families, seafront traders, off-licence owners and the city council.

We are not calling for any changes in the law - we are asking for people simply not to bring any glass on to the beach at any time.

We are asking the council to provide more bins, for off-licence owners not to sell bottles on the days of major events and for seafront traders to never sell any drinks in glasses.

If everyone joins the campaign and sets an example to visitors, we will eventually have a glass-free and safe beach that will continue to give pleasure to people for many years to come.
