Vandals are putting their lives at risk by breaking into building sites.
That is the stark warning from West Sussex County Council, which says young vandals are facing serious injury and even death if they break into unattended sites.
It issued the message after a gang of youths broke into a flood alleviation work site in Tangmere Road, Chichester.
The youngsters ripped down a fence before using the site as a short cut after visiting a nearby club.
Police watches will be stepped up at the site until the work is completed on September 4.
A security guard will also guard the area at night.
Mark Hammond, director of environment and development, said: "All building sites are danger areas. And this site is no different.
"As work progresses, the site will become more dangerous.
"If people persist in opening the fencing to walk through the site, they will risk serious injury or death.
"Don't be sorry. Be safe. Stay away from this site if you don't want to be a tragic statistic."
