Bags of rubbish have been thrown into the middle of a street in a bid to get the council to remove them.

Residents living in Bolney Road, Moulsecoomb, Brighton, say they have not had their rubbish collected for three weeks, since the collection days changed.

They say they feel the only thing to do is put the 40 to 50 bin bags in the road.

Darren Osbourne, who has two young children, said: "All the rubbish has been piling up in our front gardens. The place is full of flies as a result. It is absolutely disgusting.

"We did not want to have to put the bags on the street but we do not feel we have much choice. We pay our council tax for the rubbish to be cleared up."

Other parts of Moulsecoomb have also been suffering.

Dave Barnard, chairman of the Moulsecoomb Tenants' Association said: "The rubbish has not been cleared from Goodwood Way for three weeks. There are piles of rubbish."

Susan Sainsbury, of Trafalgar Terrace, Brighton, has been waiting almost three weeks for her rubbish to be collected. She has called the council daily.

She said: "It is piled up in the street. It stinks and it is disgusting. They have been out but only taken half the street's bags."

Patricia Holden, of Vale Road, Portslade, has not had her rubbish collected for almost four weeks.

The rubbish is left in a twitten and the binmen appear to have missed it.

A spokeswoman for Brighton and Hove City Council said: "The residents of Bolney Road should have their rubbish collected today.

"We apologise to people who have not had their rubbish collected when they expected and we thank them for their patience.

"The refuse collectors are working very hard across the city dealing with bins which have been missed and are trying to get to them as soon as possible."
