It really is a great disappointment to a lot of people to learn that George Street, Hove, will remain open to all traffic from 4pm each weekday.
We had hoped 6pm would become the new time, allowing us all to shop in peace and safety.
When the street re-opens at 4pm, there is no warning and mothers with small children and elderly people may be unaware a convoy of traffic is bearing down on them.
It then is no longer pleasant to sit on the seats provided. Some are sited so near to the road it feels unsafe to do so.
The traffic begins to line up in Blatchington Road from 3.30pm onwards, blocking buses trying to proceed west.
Some drivers cannot wait and start blowing their horns. I feel extremely sorry for the man detailed to unlock the posts since, often, the second he removes one post, some drivers mount the pavement in their haste to get through, often shouting abuse or narrowly missing injuring him.
I notice it is not elderly or disabled people who are intent on travelling down George Street but younger people who probably just want to park for free or are too lazy to walk.
It would be far better to close George Street to all traffic except before 10am, in order for deliveries to be made, and give us all a safe and pleasant environment to enjoy.
