I am kindly advised by Brighton and Hove's traffic engineers that further improvements have been made for the consultant-designed Lewes Road traffic management scheme, as follows:
The original two lanes at the Union Road junction with the Lewes Road are now proposed as one left-turn-only northbound, direction Lewes, and one right-turn-only southbound, direction seafront. The right-turn-only southbound has been re-introduced to the scheme at this junction because of the very sensible objections from the local bus companies.
The section of the Lewes Road from the Vogue Gyratory system to Elm Grove will now be a continuous two lanes southbound, not the one lane only southbound as previously proposed.
This means that from the roundabout at the far end of the Lewes bypass, traffic will be in two lanes all the way into Brighton to the seafront, apart from the short slip road at the University-Southern Water Falmer junction.
Things can only get better upon completion... if we obey loading, disabled and normal parking provisions being provided for locals, commuters and visitors alike.
