A Worthing man was disqualified from driving for three years and fined £750 after pleading guilty to driving with excess alcohol.
Simon Drake, 26, of Findon Road, Findon Valley, was arrested on July 14 this year after being involved in an accident in Broadwater Street, Worthing.
Sally Coles, prosecuting, said: "When police got to the scene, Drake smelled of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet and slurred his speech."
She said when he took a breath test he was found to be over the legal limit and said to an officer: "Hands up mate I have had too much to drink."
Wendy Holmes, defending, told the court Drake was getting over a divorce but was trying to get his life together.
She said: "Part of his recuperation is he will start a new life with his parents in Spain."
Drake was also ordered to pay £50 in costs.
