A vulnerable man missing for more than a year was spotted by shocked relatives at the Fatboy Slim beach concert.
Relatives of Peter Erik Mail believe they saw him among the 250,000 crowd at the event on Brighton beach.
Now detectives in Kent have asked Sussex Police for help in finding the 29-year-old, believed to be in the Brighton or Eastbourne area.
His parents are desperate to hear from their son, who they say is vulnerable following a stroke when he was 19.
Before his disappearance, Mr Mail lived with his mother in Bromley, Kent.
His family have not heard from him since April 11, 2001, when he phoned to say he was going camping in Eastbourne.
His bank account has not been touched since then.
Police believe he is alive and well and are now preparing to place missing posters along the Sussex coast in an attempt to trace him.
PC Julia Carter said: "One of his relatives thought they saw him on television during the Fatboy Slim concert."
"His parents are very concerned. They've heard nothing from him.
"It may be a case where he doesn't want to be found. He is 29 - old enough to do what he wants. But his parents consider him vulnerable, especially because his bank account has not been touched."
Mr Mail's family have told police they believe he would be attracted to the Brighton lifestyle.
Mr Mail is prone to falling asleep and walks with a shuffle. He cannot move his eye up and down and one eye points away from the other.
Police say he makes friends with strangers very quickly and is too trusting. He has tattoos on both arms.
Anyone with information should call Sergeant Kevin Stephenson on 0208 2848703.
