Brighton and Hove fills up on Bank Holidays. Failure to maintain a mutually understood collection schedule is the cause of significant refuse problems.
In these two contexts, would it not make much more sense for refuse collections to continue uninterrupted and on schedule over Bank Holiday periods?
It would not be unreasonable for contracts of employment in the service to offer equivalent holiday entitlement in lieu of Bank Holiday times, perhaps with a day added to make such a deal more attractive, though many workers might be perfectly happy to take holidays at times which suit them rather than at times inflicted on them.
