Sussex sides occupy four of the top seven places in Division One South after wins for Lewes, Horsham and Worthing.

Pride of place went to John Maggs' Horsham who thrashed Croydon, a Premier Division club last season, 6-1 at Queen Street.

Maggs could afford to leave Gavin Geddes, who was nursing a slight ankle injury, on the bench until the last 30 minutes and still watch the goals fly in.

Four of them came from former Crawley hitman Robbie Collins after Gary Charman headed home a Dave Flemming cross to give them a ninth-minute lead.

Collins chipped goalkeeper Matt Martin to open his account 12 minutes later and completed his hat-trick either side of half-time with two clinical finishes.

Croydon substitute Ryan Hill pulled one back before Collins got an easy fourth and Geddes came on to score in the last minute.

Maggs said: "Robbie did superbly, his four goals were really well taken.

"The power we have up front is really going to frighten teams."

Steve Payne returns after a business trip for today's visit to Molesey (3pm).

Worthing picked up their second win of the season with a hard-fought 3-1 success at Bromley.

Colin Luckett's luck was out when he missed a ninth-minute penalty for the hosts after Andrew Beech had fouled Eddie Akuamoah and Rebels made them pay when Gavin Jones scored from close range from Mark Knee's knock-down.

Knee added a second on 26 minutes, firing past goalkeeper Chuck Martini from a Paul Kennett pass. Jones squandered a great chance eight minutes later and Bromley pulled a goal back immediately through a Carl Bartley header.

Worthing made the game safe late on through Ben Carrington. Boss Barry Lloyd said: "We deserved to win, but it was hard work in the second half when they came at us a bit."

Rebels should be unchanged for today's home game against early leaders Epsom and Ewell (3pm).

Lewes enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win at Ashford Town.

They got the ideal start when Germain Amanuel finished off a one-two with Gareth Green to give them a fourth-minute lead.

John Palmer headed home a Graham Harper cross to make it 2-0 before half-time and victory was secured late on when midfielder Joe Clark burst through from midfield to convert a Danny Davis pass.

Lewes goalkeeper Ross Standen was only called into serious action on one occasion when he kept out a shot from Danny Kirk in the second half.

Boss Jimmy Quinn said: "It was a poor game."

Quinn is expecting a tougher test at home to Bromley today (3pm) when Lewes should be at full strength.

Bognor squandered two late chances at home to Molesey in their 1-1 draw at Nyewood Lane.

Matt Edwards and David Birmingham were the offenders, but Rocks boss Jack Pearce felt it would have been an injustice had his side collected maximum points. He said: "We were lucky to get a point."

Rocks got the perfect start when midfielder Steve Leigh beat the offside trap to convert a Matt Russell through ball after just three minutes.

But the visitors began to get a grip on proceedings and Dean Canoville and Nko Ekuku both forced Craig Stoner into fine saves before Canoville, who played Nationwide League football for Millwall last season, rammed home the equaliser on 66 minutes.

Michael Birmingham joined a lengthy injury list when he limped off late on with a knee problem. Pearce rates him doubtful for today's trip to Banstead Athletic (3pm).
