An initiative to support engineering firms in Sussex is being launched next week.
Business support organisation Sussex Enterprise is staging the Engineering for Excellence event on September 3 at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel, near Gatwick.
It aims to bring together companies in the advanced engineering sector to share ideas, solve common problems and promote Sussex industry.
Spokesman John Deane said:
"Advanced engineering is one of the key industries driving the economy in Sussex, employing 27,000 people and generating £978 million a year.
"The initiative will focus on enhancing technology and product development in electronics, engineering, automotive design, medical equipment and renewable energy companies and offer excellent opportunities for making valuable business contacts."
The first seminar will focus on electronics manufacturing and the economy. It will feature a series of presentations from high profile experts in the industry, including a keynote address from electronics entrepreneur Cliff Hardcastle, and Stephen Radley, chief economist at the Engineering Employers' Federation.
Mr Deane said: "Companies will gain an insight into the current UK and global economic climates that relate to this industry.
In particular, we will be addressing how to seek new markets in the Far East."
The event should assist advanced engineering companies to improve technology, enhance skills and pioneer new markets.
