Police have launched an urgent appeal for help in catching a convicted killer who vanished after being bailed pending an appeal.
They believe Richard Crawford, 41, convicted of raping and murdering one elderly pensioner and attempting to rape another, may now be living in the Brighton area.
A police spokesman said: "Richard Crawford is considered a danger to the elderly, particularly females, and it is therefore imperative that he is traced and taken into custody without delay."
Originally from Paisley, near Glasgow, he was convicted and jailed for life in February 2000.
In December last year he was released on bail pending an appeal but he failed to appear in court in July this year.
A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Detective Inspector Danny Ferguson, of Strathclyde Police, said: "Inquiries suggest that he may be residing in the Brighton area.
"I would urge anyone who knows of his whereabouts or recognises the description not to approach him but to notify police immediately."
Crawford is said to be 5ft 10in, heavily tattooed on both arms, with brown hair and deep set eyes.
Police are appealing for people to contact 0141 532 5900 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
