Traders could drop a regular French market in a popular shopping street because not enough people are using it.
They warned the market planned for George Street, Hove, this weekend will be the last if it is not supported.
They have issued a "use it or lose it" ultimatum in a bid to attract more visitors.
The threat comes after too few people shopped there the last time the market took place in May.
In the past, the two-day event has attracted up to 20 per cent more people to George Street, which is shut to traffic between 10am and 4pm.
Traders from Dieppe set up stalls selling everything from cheese and wine to French meats, olives and household goods.
Keith Bryden, chairman of Hove Business Association, said: "All the traders have been very happy with previous French markets.
"They have attracted more people to the area and shops in Blatchington Road and Church Road have also benefited.
"The last market, however, was very disappointing and we had a very negative feedback from local traders.
"It is not worthwhile putting the event on either for us or for the French traders if too few people turn up.
"We will listen to what local businesses say after this weekend's market.
"The bottom line is if they are no longer happy with it and say they don't want it any more, that will be it.
"If shoppers want to keep it they will have to show their support by turning up on Saturday and Sunday."
The market will be open from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
