Although an understated stage presence and an introspective performer, Farrar writes some powerful songs and delivers them in a voice reminiscent of Neil Young.
Accompanied by the excellent guitar work of Mark Spencer from The Blood Oranges, highlights included Tear Stained Eye, written for Farrar's second band Son Volt, and Gather.
Farrar was occasionally let down by a stylistic unity which meant he often followed one song with another in the same key or with a similar chord structure.
But while some of the numbers lacked the chaotic energy of Tupelo or Volt, when Farrar and Spencer let rip, the power was almost tangible.
