I found it hilarious to see the article headlined "Waste date change" (The Argus, Aug 26).
As the whole of Brighton and Hove knows, from Monday, July 29, our collections changed - well perhaps not all, as quite a few of my neighbours didn't even get a card through their door.
My card said my collection day would be Monday. This is how it has gone so far:
Due: Monday, July 29, came: Friday, August 2.
Due: Monday, August 5, came: Thursday, August 8.
Due: Monday, August 12, came: Thursday, August 15.
Due: Monday, August 19, came: Thursday, August 22.
Due to the Bank Holiday, the collection was due on Tuesday and I lulled myself into a false sense of security and thought they would actually come that day. Silly me. I wait in anticipation to see which day they will be here.
Back to the article. I'm so pleased Steve White, general manager, is pleased with the residents for putting out their rubbish on time.
That gives the residents on my estate - quite a few of whom are disabled and elderly - three or four days of continuous clearing up in the morning after the local wildlife have had their midnight feasts.
Just how long is the "settling-in period" going to last? I give them another two weeks, then I will start asking the residents of Meadowview to put their rubbish in the middle of the road every Monday morning until they get it right.
This is a bus route so I'm sure they will get their act together then.
-D Thornton (Mrs), Meadowview, Brighton
