Craig Rainer has his sights set on further glory after becoming class champion for the third time in four years.
The Crawley Down driver clinched the Ford Saloon Car Championship class B title with another dominant display at Mallory Park last Sunday.
Now Rainer wants to claim the overall title for the first time - and he could do at the next round at Snetterton.
After finishing first in class and second overall at Mallory Park, the Wealden Racing ace moved ten points clear in the overall championship with two rounds to go.
Reclaiming his class title was sweet for Rainer who lost it in disappointing fashion last season.
He said: "We had a bad time last year when the engine blew up four races from the end of the season and we were unable to retain our title.
"We still finished second last year even though we didn't do the races at the end of the season.
"This year we got stuck in again and really went for it."
Overall victory would delight the 32-year-old house-husband, who gave up his job with a local garage two years ago to look after daughter Shannon.
Rainer said: "We have been close to the overall title before but come the end of the season we have always been ten or 20 points short in the fight for the title.
"This year we are ten points in the lead. I don't want to say too much but it is looking good at the moment.
"There are two races to go. If we go out at the next race and get 15 points, it would be mathematically impossible for anyone to catch us.
"We need a good result and then it is done."
Rainer qualified his MkII Escort Cosworth on the front row of the grid, taking pole position for his class by just four hundredths of a second.
The threatened rain held off for the race and Rainer made a good start, tucking in just behind the class A car of Graham Wait.
After three laps a momentary lapse saw class B rival Tim Watson take second place from Rainer, a position he managed to hold on to until lap 11 when the Sussex driver powered him out of the first corner.
There was no second chance for Watson as Rainer went on to finish first in class for the eighth time out of 12 races and second overall.
He added: "We have now got a car that is good in all areas and it it showing through the points we have picked up this year."
The next round is at Snetterton on September 21 and the season ends at Oulton Park in Cheshire on October 12.
Also in action at Mallory Park was Brighton's Mike Webb, who was offered the chance to drive Alan Hassell's Escort Cosworth 4x4.
Hassell is Webb's racing mentor and the opportunity gave him the chance of having some fun but also testing a car which is due out on hire at the next round at Snetterton.
Despite being in a car he did not know and having a problem when some oil dripped on to his exhaust, Webb still qualified third in class A and eighth overall out of 17 cars.
When the race got going, it was obvious there was still a problem with the turbo boost which left Webb down on power but he still managed to finish third in class and ninth overall.
Webb has now been asked to drive the car as a one-off in the Snetterton Ford series at Brands Hatch on September 8.
