Lewes and St Leonards moved into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup, but Eastbourne Borough and Horsham both face replays tomorrow night.
Entertainment was in short supply at the Dripping Pan where a 12th minute goal from Julian Curnow earned Lewes a narrow 1-0 win over Wessex League Thatcham Town.
Curnow converted a cross from John Palmer for the crucial strike but Rooks' boss Jimmy Quinn admitted it had been a poor game.
"If I'd been a paying spectator I think I would have left at half-time," said Quinn.
"It was very scrappy, but we're through and that's the most important thing."
Two late goals took the gloss of St Leonards' 4-3 victory at Combined Counties League Merstham.
The hero for Saints, who recorded their first win of the season, was Mark Lovell with a hat-trick to make it four goals in his last two games.
Sean Ray had given the visitors a sixth minute lead but Chris Malik levelled four minutes later. Lovell restored Saints' lead on the half-hour and completed his treble with two goals in 15 minutes midway through the second half.
But Nick Burridge made it 4-2 on 89 minutes and Shane Traynor converted an injury time penalty for the hosts after Rhod Davies had been brought down.
Horsham's famed falibility against supposedly inferior opposition means a trip to Kent tomorrow after they surrendered a two-goal lead in the last five minutes at home to Lordswood and drew 2-2.
A superbly taken goal by Rob Collins from Lee Butcher's pass put Hornets ahead on 58 minutes and Gavin Geddes appeared to have secured their passage into the next round when he converted a cross from James Grant.
But Steve Weeks made it 2-1 after his initial effort had been blocked and John Kirby's attempted clearance sliced into his own net in injury time to complete an unlikely Lordswood comeback.
Horsham's assistant manager Ali Rennie said: "Against poor sides in the past we haven't always gone out with the right attitude and that was the case again on Saturday."
Eastbourne Borough were happy to take Croydon Athletic back to Priory Lane for a replay after a 0-0 draw.
Scott Ramsay headed Borough's best effort just wide while Matt Goodwin twice went close, but the visitors lacked a cutting edge in the absence of Matt Allen who went down with a sickness bug on the morning of the match.
Boss Garry Wilson said: "I felt we edged it chances-wise, but it is a difficult ground to get a result."
Four teams from the Matthew Clark County League marched on in the FA Cup with Ringmer taking pride of place.
They recovered from a sluggish first half to score an excellent 3-0 win at Erith.
Richard Branson kept them on terms in the first half with a brilliant save but a re-shuffle from boss Glenn Burvill helped the Blues take charge after the break.
Peter Montgomery dropped back into defence, though his forays forward at set pieces brought two of the goals.
His first was a superb overhead kick after an initial attempt had been blocked. Mark Emery led a counter raid which saw Ian Costello make it 2-0.
Montgomery wrapped it up by heading home from a free-kick.
Burvill said: "The first half was the worst we have played since I have been here but we changed things at half time and started playing through them."
Makeshift Selsey also had a notable result, winning 3-0 at home to an Ash United side who have been unstoppable in the Combined Counties League so far.
Paul Lee set up Grant Vanson for the opener and Darren Lowery fired the second. Sixteen-year-old substitute Matt Stillman rounded it off with a glorious finish.
Danny Punt is turning into Three Bridges' cup specialist.
A week after inspiring their win at Greenwich, he put them on course for Saturday's 3-1 defeat of Didcot by heading the opener.
Bridges boss Micky Taylor revealed: "We watched them in midweek and saw they were weak in the air at the back."
Gareth Gregg looked to have settled the contest but Didcot pulled one back to set up a tense finale.
Pat Massaro finally killed them off as he rounded the goalkeeper to finish.
Peacehaven also went through after a 3-1 win at fellow County Leaguers Redhill. Jon Lockhart produced two great finishes to add to a goal from 16-year-old Robbie Brown.
They were joined in the next round by Pagham who beat Bracknell Town 3-2 yesterday with goals from Lee Stevens (two) and Stewart MacIntosh.
