Please forgive me if my memory is incorrect but I seem to remember a Brighton and Hove City Council spokesman stating when it took over responsibility for street parking and traffic wardens, parking problems would ease.

City News also had a two page spread confirming this, with the additional news police would be freed to carry out their real duties i.e. combat crime.

There have been several occasions recently when 999 callers to the police have been advised there was an overload of calls and no response could be made straight away.

Link the above with the photograph and article in The Argus (Aug 28) showing a police sergeant and two police constables issuing notices regarding illegal parking in the Westbourne area of Hove.

I must be naive but I have the idea this is a complete waste of manpower. This

was surely the reason the Brighton and Hove city traffic wardens were formed?

And haven't they the authority to have illegally parked vehicles towed away?
